The Google Merch Shop's
Guide to Sustainable Clothing

In 2025, the word ‘sustainability’ is everywhere, all while us as consumers have become disconnected from where the things we buy come from and how they’re made. As a society we’ve become increasingly reliant on fast fashion for convenience and cheaper clothing in times of economic hardship.

It’s no surprise clothing we buy through these retailers isn’t built to last, so what can we do to buy consciously to build a wardrobe that will last a lifetime? In this guide we’ll provide you with what to consider when buying clothing and how committed we are as Google’s official merch to promote ethical and sustainable apparel.

Google Merch Shop and Sustainable Clothing

Environmental impact is at the forefront of our minds when we launch new apparel here at the Google Merch Shop. We strive to not only produce quality garments that keep Googlers looking fresh but to minimise our carbon footprint and support sustainably conscious manufacturers. As a retailer, we understand the importance of knowing where our garments come from, this is why we use the factories we do is for all things sustainable apparel.

Our Tees and Sweats are created with recycled materials or directly from the farmers producing organic cotton. In 2023, the factory we work with launched their ‘farm to farm’ collaboration with Remei Tanzania, who ensure local cotton farmers are supported to maximise organic farming practices, are paid fairly and have access to resources to protect livelihoods.

Unlike the production of fast fashion, our tees and sweats do not use harmful chemicals when farming and manufacturing materials, including dyes used to create their extensive colour ranges. Our t-shirt, polos and shirt category showcases the quality of what the brand can create with natural colours and soft, organic fabrics.

The factory has all the certification to perfectly demonstrate ethical, environmental practices including The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), The Global Recycled Standard (GRS), OEKO – TEX and PETA-Approved.

Our process from conceptualising new Google essential apparel to launching on our website, sustainable practices are considered just as much as the style and branding placements.

Working with factories like we do, makes this process swift and easy as we both reflect the same environmental values, priding ourselves in delivering the best quality products for Googlers all while supporting the betterment of our planet.
